Is parawing makes sense for you?

• You are focused on Downwinding: The Parawing is primarily designed for "Downwind Foiling." You use the wing to get enough speed to get up on the foil, and then you collapse it or hold it neutrally while you "ride the bumps" (ocean swells) for miles.

• You want Portability (The "Pocket" Wing): Unlike inflatable wings with heavy struts and bladders, a Parawing is essentially a small parachute. It can be folded up and stuffed into a pocket or a small waist pack once you are up on foil, giving you a completely "unencumbered" surfing experience.

• You already have Foiling experience: Parawings are generally harder to learn than inflatable wings. They require better board balance and an understanding of how to "pump" a foil.

• You live in a High-Wind area: They are excellent for high-wind scenarios where an inflatable wing might feel too powerful or bulky once you are actually riding the wave.

Summary

If your goal is to ride ocean swells for long distances and you want the freedom of having nothing in your hands while you surf the foil, the Dakine Parawing is a specialized tool for that specific "freedom." If you want to cruise back and forth at your local lake and return to the same beach you started from, stick with a standard inflatable wing.

• If your Dakine bag gets dirty, we recommend hand washing with mild soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash), cold water and a soft bristle brush. If hand washing is not going to do the trick, use a front loader washing machine. To ensure your backpack doesn't get tangled, place inside a pillowcase or mesh bag before washing. Always use cold water, mild soap and run on a gentle cycle. Never bleach your pack. Hang to dry in a warm but shady place, ensuring both inside and out are dry before storing.
